Arnold Howard

Arnold Ray Howard 1920 - 2011 Arnold Ray Howard, one of the very best from "The Greatest Generation", left his earthly bounds peacefully from home with his family by his side on April 13, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 18, 2011 at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, New Plymouth. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Park View Cemetery, New Plymouth. A gathering for family and friends will follow at the New Plymouth Senior Center. Condolences may be made to the family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com. He was born Nov. 12, 1920 at home in Buhl, ID, with delivery assisted by maternal grandmother Mary Annis, to farming parents Noah & Ethel Howard. Teen years were spent working in the family grocery at 104 N. 13th in Boise. He drove taxi while attending machinist school. In 1940, he worked in a Bremerton, WA shipyard with a fellow graduate. April 14, 1942 Arnold joined the U.S. Navy. His 1st assignment was the USS Beatty leaving S. Carolina for the WWII invasion of N. Africa; the 1st of 6 Atlantic crossings on convoy duty. The USS Beatty was sunk by torpedo Nov. 6, 1943 with Arnold being rescued after 7 hours on a life boat; an anxious experience for a man who couldn't swim. It took 6 mo. to get stateside for fire control school in Washing D.C. before assignment to the cruiser USS Pittsburgh. During a 30 day leave before shipping out, he met the love of his life & married Stella Mansani on Oct. 26, 1944 in Quincy, MA. Arnold and Stella loved & cherished one another joyfully until Stella's death 44 years later. The USS Pittsburgh passed thru the Panama Canal & joined the Pacific 3rd Fleet. Arnold related one battle off Sicily's coast during which German tanks were off loading from a train. The fleet destroyed all tanks by blindly firing over a hill while our Air Force relayed strike info so corrections could be made. Shortly thereafter, the Pittsburg was caught in high seas between colliding Pacific storms & lost 104' of bow. The cruiser limped back to the States & upon entering Seattle Harbor Oct. 1945, pamphlets landed on the fantail conveying the war was over. Upon honorable discharge, he returned to the East Coast & worked as an electrician. During this time his daughter Shirley was born in Quincy, MA. City life didn't appeal to the country boy, so the family moved to Twin Falls, ID where Arnold worked for Floyd Smith's Electrical. In 1949, Arnold and Stella bought an 80 acre farm SE of New Plymouth. Their dairy herd sold in 1958 & Arnold became a part-time farmer supplemented by employment at Stunz Lumber before becoming owner of Freeway Texaco. In 1973, he became owner of Arnold's Refrigeration & Electrical, specializing in dairy related electrical services. He served as President of the Refrigeration Services Engineering. Work only partially defined Arnold. He & Stella gave full support to their daughter's activities & were active in their community. From Falk School dances where several generations came together to square & round dance, to dancing members of Elks, they had fun. Arnold and Stella were active in the Veterans of Foreign War organization at the local, state, & national levels. Arnold was an All American District Commander in '68 & Idaho Dept. Commander in '71. He served on the National Legislative committee. They traveled to Washington D.C. & many national conventions advocating for Veterans. Arnold personally met with 4 different U.S. Presidents. Arnold loved to travel because it broadened the mind. He visited all 50 states at least once. In 1979 Arnold became a Payette County Commissioner & won successive elections serving 20 yrs. During his tenure, many improvements in county government were instituted, including: 911 emergency system, central dispatch, computerized record & mapping, & an environmentally-forward landfill. Hard work & dedication of the Board of Commissioners, with Arnold as Chairman, kept the county on a balanced budget while improving services. Arnold dedicated time to many local boards & committees: ID Community Action, NP Chamber, ID Assoc. of Counties, & Governor's Energy Audit. As a director of Treasure Valley Certified Development Board, he took particular interest in the SBA-503 Loan program for new businesses & jobs. As president of Ida-Ore Planning Assoc., he helped the Area on Aging coordinate Sr. citizens centers & services. Arnold was a member of a close New Plymouth community for 60+ yrs & counted many friends as a blessing. In the '90's, after Stella passed away, one very special friend, Bonnie Hewitt, became his dancing partner & special companion until her passing. In 2007, diminishing eyesight & health made moving closer to Boise family wise. He missed day-to-day interaction with his community, he seized the opportunity to be involved with the daily lives of his daughter Shirley, son-in-law Karl, granddaughter Jodane, the delightful antics of great granddaughter Tyla Christoffersen & was included in Christoffersen Clan gatherings. He made new friends among the residents, staff, & even small critters at Hillcrest Retirement Ctr. He found a very special companion in Bea Greer while residing at Hillcrest. Arnold's son-in-law made sure a connection to New Plymouth was sustained with trips to Dudley's Barber Shop & Senior Center. His 90th Birthday was celebrated at the Center with many friends making it wonderfully memorable. Dad's counsel & love will be sorely missed, but his essence will live forever by what he taught so many about how to love, true friendship, & living with full attention to duty & integrity. Honor him by thanking a veteran, exercising your privilege to vote, contributing to your community, respecting Mother Earth, & use each day to love & value your friends. In lieu of flowers & if so inclined, contributions in his name to the Idaho Veteran's Home or the New Plymouth Senior Center would be fitting, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, ID 83661., . His 1st assignment was the USS Beatty leaving S. Carolina for the, invasion of N. Africa; the 1st of 6 Atlantic crossings on convoy duty. Bob Platt

Bob Platt, 99, passed away at home in Nampa March 29, 2011. He was born Jan. 11, 1912, in Parma, Ida., to Fred and Jennie Platt. He spent his childhood days growing up with his brothers Norman, Fred, and Edward. He graduated from Parma High School in 1930. Bob met June Armstrong, of Wilder, in Parma in 1934, at a basketball game, and after a short courtship they were married. Bob and June made their home in Boise and built their first house there in 1941. During World War II he worked as an aircraft mechanic at Gowen Field. We loved hearing his many interesting war time stories, especially the ones about working on B-17 bombers and riding with the test pilots over Boise. They had two daughters, Jennine and Glenda, and in 1949 they moved to Nampa where they established Platt Auto Sales. Bob and June worked side by side in their business and built and operated a car wash until selling the property in 1984 and retiring. June passed in March of 2005. They had been married for 70 years. Grandpa Bob and Grandma June always provided a blanket of security and were always there for whatever the family needed. Some of their greatest joys were taking their kids and grandkids on many trips to the Oregon Coast, Disneyland, and other excursions. During his last years he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing cards and telling stories. He cherished his weekly visits from his pastor, Ron Rodes, his frequent visits and calls from nephews, Jim, Bruce and Fred, sister-in-law Frieda and their special friend Jutta of Washington State. Bob leaves behind daughters, Jennine Hennessey [Dave] of Nampa, Glenda Thames [Leland] of Boise; grandchildren, Bob, Shaun, Jody, LeAnn, and David, and great-grandchildren, Jenny, Casey, Keely, Bonny, Emilee, Heather, Joey, and Paul, and one great great- grandchild. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife June, his brothers, grandson, Casey and great-grandson, Ryan. The family expresses thanks to the nurses of St. Luke's Meridian. Thank you Daddy. We love you, Jennine and Glenda. Godspeed, see you later Grandpa Bob! Bob requested no services. A family gathering was held in his memory.

Hazel Engels

Hazel V. Engels 1920 ~ 2011 Hazel Virginia Engels, 90, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2011, surrounded by her family at the Regency Columbia Village Assisted Living. She was born on December 17, 1920 to James W. and Dorothy Sherrill in Boise, Idaho. She grew up with eight other siblings in the Horseshoe Bend and Round Valley area. While working for Boeing in Seattle during WWII, she met and married the love of her life, Wayland D. Engels (Bill) on February 5, 1944. Hazel had many accomplishments during her lifetime, working many years in retail. She also taught Sunday School at the Salvation Army Church receiving many commendations for her time and efforts. But, she was best known for her baking and when asking someone what they wanted for a birthday present the answer was usually "a pie, any kind of pie". She, her sister, and a friend braved many a camping trip with all the kids...mostly to the Idaho City area. Bad Bear Camp Ground was always a favorite, probably chosen for the name by the young campers. Her family was the most precious to her and she could never get enough. We always said Mom would enjoy having family move back home. She leaves behind her loving husband, Bill, of 67 years; four siblings, Loberta Jones, Boise, Vickie Slaughter, Coeur d'Alene, James Sherrill, Boise, and Robert Sherrill, Notus. She had four children, David E. Reed (Gail), Boise, Donald R. Reed, Philippines, Ron L. Engels (Joyce), Boise, and Sharon Behrman (Dale), Boise; 12 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. The family would like to extend their thanks to the kind and caring staffs of the Regency Columbia Village, and the Heart and Home Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity or the Idaho Humane Shelter. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Summers Funeral Home, 1205 W. Bannock Street, Boise. Interment will be held at a later date at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.

Irene E. LaMarche 1925 ~ 2011 Irene E. LaMarche, 85, of Boise passed away April 12, 2011 at her residence. She was born Sept. 23, 1925 to Marie (Gruber) and John Murphy in Superior Wis., one of eight children. A graduate of Central High School in Superior, she was editor-in-chief of the school newspaper. She attended the University of Wisconsin at Superior where she earned a B.S. degree in education with a major in mathematics and minors in biology and chemistry-physics. President of her college sorority, Irene worked her way through college as a clerk at Brandser's men's clothing store. Following graduation, Irene taught high school math in Ironwood, Mich. During this time, she met her future husband, Joe LaMarche. After a year, Irene opted for a bit of adventure and accepted a teaching position, sight unseen, in St. Maries, Idaho. Joe, obviously smitten with Irene, hitchhiked across the country to be with her. They were married October 13, 1948 and moved to Moscow in 1949 where Joe attended the University of Idaho. While in Moscow, they had three of their four children, Tim, Amy and Emilie. Tad was born after the family relocated to Boise. Irene went back to teaching as a math instructor at Borah High School in 1958, the year the school opened. While today her son Tim is better known as Swampy, Irene was the original Swampy, earning the nickname from her Borah students as a play on her last name of LaMarche. Known as a hard-nosed, no nonsense teacher and disciplinarian, Irene was probably lucky to be given such a benign nickname. She later taught for one-year at St. Teresa's Academy before trading in the classroom for the ski hill. Irene took up skiing as an adult, and through sheer perseverance, she became an expert skier. She started teaching ski lessons in the Boise City Recreation program and worked with the Bogus Basin kindergarten program until she became a certified ski instructor. She taught ski lessons at Bogus Basin from 1958 to1970 when she was named the director of the Bogus Basin Ski School, a position she held until 1978. Irene was the first woman in the U.S. to direct a full-time ski school. In 1989, Irene came out of retirement to develop the First Security Winter Games of Idaho for the Idaho Centennial Sports Commission and served as executive director of the Games until 1992. She was a talented seamstress and a beautiful knitter making most of her kids' clothing when they were young. She knit the most amazing sweaters, hats, blankets and mittens - gifts that were coveted by her family and friends. Irene put her talents to use for many years volunteering with the Women of St. John's, working tirelessly sewing and crafting items for the group's annual Christmas bazaar, and helping with the organization's other activities in support of the parish. She truly enjoyed the many friendships she made through her involvement with this group. Growing up on the shores of Lake Superior, Irene loved the water and swimming. McCall was her favorite place to be in the summer. When she wasn't enjoying the water and her friends, she was busy picking huckleberries and was known for her huckleberry pies. She was fond of playing cards and games. Highly competitive, she showed no mercy for opponents, except occasionally with her grandchildren. Irene is survived by her children, Tim (Deb) LaMarche of Park City, Utah; Amy (Reilly) McDevitt; Emilie (Larry Ryals) LaMarche; and Tad LaMarche, all of Boise; her grandchildren, Spencer LaMarche, John and Annie McDevitt; her sisters, Marie Lawdanski, Anna Mae Hagar, Margaret Hill and Jeanne Starkey; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Jim and John Murphy; and her sister, Catherine Murphy. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John's Cathedral, Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Donald J. Riffle presiding. A reception will follow at 1205 Warm Springs Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials gifts to the Bogus Basin Recreational Association or a favorite charity. To share memories with the family please visit Irene's memorial webpage online at www.CloverdaleFuneralHome.com.

Joseph Dominic Cook

Joseph Dominic Cook Aug. 4, 1923 - April 13, 2011 On the thirteenth day of April, 2011, in the company of his wife and children, Joseph Dominic Cook got his wish to pass peacefully into the loving arms of God. He will always be remembered as a loving family man, a business man with incredible integrity and a man of deep faith. Dad was born on August 4, 1923 on a little farm outside of Greeley, Nebraska, to Nicholas and Stella Canning Cook. He was the fourth of five children. At the age of four dad lost his mother in a tragic fire and the kids were raised by their father who never remarried. Dad's aunt Margaret Murphy and paternal grandparents John and Maryann Cook also assisted in raising the children. Dad was very close to his brothers: John, Jim and Leo and he had a special bond with his sister, Stacia. It was extremely important for Grandpa Nick that his kids were educated. Dad attended schools around the Greeley, and Scotia, Nebraska area. Dad attended Sacred Heart High School in Greeley and played football. He loved to tell the stories of how his brothers (the twins) John and Jim would block for him and he would run for a touchdown with them yelling, "Go Joe! Go Joe!". One of his favorite football stories was when his brother John got his nose broken in a game and it made dad so mad that he ran for four or five touchdowns. Even though grandpa stressed the importance of education dad dropped out of school after the football season ended his senior year to help on the farm. Sacred Heart School was when dad first met Margaret Mary Stephens. They did not date until after Mom graduated. They were married at Sacred Heart Church in Greeley on August 12, 1946. A year later mom and dad moved to New Plymouth, Idaho. Dad was not impressed with the Idaho desert when he first moved, but soon grew to love his new home. While in New Plymouth dad worked for several farmers and a local lumber company. He began his love of fishing the Idaho rivers with his good friend, Elwood Collinsworth. Mom and Dad were blessed with 5 children, Karen, Nick, Peg, Ron and Dominic who passed away at birth. Family was first in dads mind and heart. Mom and dad and their young family moved to Boise, Idaho in 1957. Dad had invested his life savings in to being a partner in the Overhead Door Co. of S. W. Idaho. Dad sacrificed many hours so that his children could receive a Catholic education. All of the kids attended Sacred Heart and Bishop Kelly High School. Dad was involved as an assistant coach and coach in the early days of optimist football in Boise, coaching his son Nick. He also sponsored several of Peg's softball teams from youth softball to women's fast pitch. He also sponsored five women's fast pitch tournaments. Dad loved to watch college football and Nebraska, Boise State and Notre Dame were his favorite teams to watch with Ron. Sports were not his only pastime with his children as the yearly fishing trips were a favorite for him. Every year dad and Uncle Jim would take all of the kids camping and fishing. The Main and Middle forks of the Payette rivers were a favorite spot for these trips. Dad loved to see his son, Nick and nephews, John and Mike in the middle of the rivers catching more fish than they could keep. Dad rarely got the opportunity to fish himself as he was so busy baiting hooks and taking the fish off of the younger kids fishing poles. He took great pride in being the camp cook and every child had to eat his fried taters and onions. As the kids got older and his grandchildren were born dad continued the family camping trips. His love of fishing was not limited to the rivers of Idaho as he looked forward to every opportunity to go deep sea fishing with his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Helen and Rod Hall. Most of these trips included his wife Margie. Dad and Mom were partners in all parts of their lives. Their love of their family and incredible support they showed their kids will always be remembered. Dad and mom enjoyed many trips that they had won through the business. Dad loved mom very much and just before he passed he held moms hand and said, "We have had a good long life and I love you." They would have been married 65 years this August. Dad and mom worked together in the Overhead Door business for 43 years. Dad built the business on customer service. He made many lifelong relationships with general contractors. All of the kids worked in the business at one time or another. His brother Jim assisted him in the early years of the business and helped to make it have a good and positive reputation. Many of dad's nieces and nephews as well as his grandsons also worked for Overhead Door. All who worked for him would say that he was an honest and fair man who taught them a good work ethic. Dad was involved in the Home Builders Association and volunteered many hours on different committees with the Home Builders. He worked on the annual Robie Creek HBA picnic. He was awarded the sub-contractor of the year for the HBA. He was also featured in Idaho Statesman's Business Watch and when asked about his business philosophy he stated, "To be open and honest with everyone you come in contact with." Regarding his best learning experience he stated, "To treat employees with respect as individuals so they feel they are an important part of the company." Joe Harris, a local general contractor, visited dad before he passed and he said to him, "Joe, you took a lot of us young builders on and helped us to become better builders. But you did more than that you made us better people." Dad's dedication to help others to become better people was rooted in his deep faith in God and his practice of the Catholic faith. Dad was often called upon by the parish priests to help around the parishes that he attended. Dad helped to build the library behind Sacred Heart School and was involved in the building of the bleachers and concession stands at Bishop Kelly High School. He also ran the down markers and chains at Bishop Kelly before passing it on to his son, Nick and nephew, Mike Cook. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Many people were treated to either Dad's Mother's Day breakfasts of corned beef and cabbage meals at the Knights of Columbus hall. He was a founding member of St. Mark's Catholic Community. He was on the first building committee and assisted Fr. Morris Later and Fr. Raymond Peplinski whenever they called. Dad was a man who did not preach his faith, he lived it. He believed that faith without works is as useless as a screen door on a submarine. He attended Mass and was devoted to the Eucharist, and praying the Rosary. When dad passed his wife, Margie; daughters, Karen and Peg; son, Ron; brother, Jim and his wife, Mary and brother -in-law, Don were praying the Rosary. It was his wish to go peacefully with his family praying the Rosary and his wish was granted. Dad is survived by his wife, Margie; daughter, Karen Cook; daughter, Peg Cook; daughter-in-law, Linda Van Slyke; son, Ron; grandsons: J.D. Childs and his wife Kelly, Steve Childs (Cynthianna Hamrick), Lonnie Childs and Adam Bingham and his six great-grandchildren. Dad was proceeded in death by his parents: Nick and Stella Cook; his brother, Father John Cook; his sons: Nick and Dominic Cook and great-grandson Blake Childs. The family would like to thank Heart and Home Hospice especially Tina, Terra, and Sunny. We would also like to thank Kevin and the women of Assisting Hands who helped in the last hours of dad's life. And of course we want to thank ALL of our relatives and friends who are always there when we need them most. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 18, 2011 from 2:00 to 4

Joseph Gratton

Joseph Michael "Joe" Gratton 1944 - 2011 Joseph Michael (Joe) Gratton, 66, died Wednesday, April 13, 2011, after a brief illness. Although brokenhearted, we are grateful for the blessings, love, and joy that Joe brought to our lives and treasure the time we were able to spend with him at the hospital the past two weeks. Services will be at Risen Christ Catholic Church at 11511 Lake Hazel Road on Tuesday, April 19, at 4:00 p.m. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, friend, teacher, mentor, coach -- Joe cared deeply about others and made friends wherever he went. He was loved by many and will be remembered fondly for the way he enjoyed serving others and caring for those he loved -- from keeping gas in his wife's car, to taking lunch to his son at work, mailing overflowing care packages to his daughter at college, or caring for his precious grandson Diego who brought great love and joy to the last year of Joe's life. Joe wasn't afraid of being silly or of laughing and joking, especially with his children and grandson. Joe loved reading with all three of them, even when they were very young, and was so proud of them. Joe treasured family and friends, and he also treasured his faith in God and the many wonderful members of Risen Christ Parish. Born in Emmett, Idaho, on May 14, 1944, to Connie (Beitia) and Earl Gratton, Joe enjoyed fishing and camping trips with his family and loved hunting for deer, pheasant, duck, and geese with his dad and brothers. Many times they would race out of town right after school to do some hunting before dinner. Joe was active at Emmett High School serving as senior class president, participating in the drama department, and lettering in athletics. He played basketball and football for the Emmett Huskies, and football for Boise Junior College (now BSU) and College of Idaho. In recent years, he was very proud to have been a part of the building blocks of Bronco Nation's football program. Joe was a dedicated educator who taught subjects including English, journalism, drama, speech, debate, and photography. His career took him from Payette High School, to his alma mater in Emmett, then to Capital, Borah, and finally, Nampa High School. He was proud of his students, many of whom won awards and competitions in journalism and theater, but even the smallest bit of progress or achievement on the part of any one of his students delighted him. He loved teaching and took great joy in inspiring students with favorite works like To Kill a Mockingbird and Inherit the Wind. He also took joy in coaching football and track and was especially proud of his Capital High School girls track teams who were state champions in 1976 and 1981. He valued students deeply over the years, took great interest in them, treasured the funny moments they shared, and honored their dedication and diligence. He loved watching them grow and excel in the classroom, on the stage, or on the field. Joe is mentioned in numerous editions of Who's Who Among America's High School Teachers. In 2006 he was named Nampa High School Teacher of the Year as well as Nampa School District Secondary Teacher of the Year. He was honored again in his final year of teaching as Nampa High School Teacher of the Year. Ever organized and eager, Joe would rise sometimes as early as 2 a.m. and go to school to work in the quiet of the morning. When computers became a part of the educational landscape in the 1990's, Joe embraced the new technology with fervor, building a small computer lab in his classroom out of machines that he refurbished himself. He loved what he did, cherishing relationships with students and many wonderful colleagues, and chose to continue teaching until last spring when he retired after 43 years in education. Outside the classroom, Joe enjoyed making "house calls" to friends and relatives in need of a technology tune up. Another hobby that brought him joy was his passion for fishing, especially on the Boise River. He gleefully found "sweet spots" where he had quite a bit of luck using nothing more than worms on his hook, much to the chagrin of other anglers with more sophisticated bait. This past Christmas Day, Joe was proud to provide frozen trout as a stocking stuffer for everyone at the large family gathering. We are so proud of you, Joe. Thank you for all the good times, lessons learned, and wonderful memories. We will always remember how we laughed together, and although you have left us behind, your spirit and love are with us now. We love you to the moon and back. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gary, aunt Tia Dora (Beitia Madrietta) Fischer, and sister-in-law Cat Bell. He is survived by his wife Cheryl, daughter Joie (Vinnie) and grandson Diego Cariaga, son Ryan Gratton, brother Johnny (Penny) Gratton, father and mother-in-law John and Lillian Ballard who loved him as their son; brothers-in law Brian (Karen) Ballard, David (Natalie) Ballard, and John Ballard; sisters-in-law Sharon Ballard, Jan (John) McFadden, and Lorie (Steve) Chandler; nieces and nephews Kelton, Brogan, and Joseph McFadden; Joshua Ballard; Matthew, Clint, and Kaylee Green; and cousin Bernie (Darlene) Gratton, all of Boise; cousin Art (Dorothy) Gratton of Emmett; numerous other relatives; Goddaughter Adrienne Deshaies, Godson Arthur Scully, very dear friends, and last, but certainly not least, a special pal, his loving dog Charlie. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Corpus Christi House or a favorite charity. To submit memories and condolences to the family, please visit Joe's memorial webpage online at www.CloverdaleFuneralHome.com.

Wanda Stivers

Wanda Willis Stivers 1919-2011 Wanda Willis Stivers was born January 19, 1919, in Twin Falls, ldaho, and passed away March 15, 2011 in Hailey, ldaho. She lived a remarkable life, considering she was declared dead at birth. Her parents, Earnest Merrill Willis and Mary Lillian Boswell, were early Twin Falls, ldaho residents. Two brothers and one sister died in infancy. Wanda and her two surviving sisters moved with their parents to road construction sites throughout the Magic Valley. She attended Twin Falls High School and was employed by F.W. Woolworth's. ln 1938, she married Donald William Stivers. They farmed in Eden, Idaho, for 20 years before moving to Twin Falls in 1961. Their home on 11th Avenue East was a show-place of their gardening and craft skills. They celebrated 66 years together before Don passed away in 2005. Wanda loved her children Barbara Lynn and Daniel Keith and her four grandchildren. She was then blessed with four great-grandchildren . Wanda was a talented seamstress and tailor, sharing her skills with 4-H clubs for ten years. Wanda won several "Make it With Wool" contests for her creations. She then became a favorite judge of sewing projects at county fairs across the region. Wanda enjoyed a lifetime of craft activities including cooking, canning, weaving, knitting, crocheting, stained glass and tole painting. Upon moving to Twin Falls, Wanda organized her home, then looked for other meaningful work. She was hired as Christmas help by Earl Faulkner of the Paris in 1961. This turned into a fulltime job and she spent the next 25 years sharing her sense of fashion and style with generations of women who shopped with her. Wanda had an opportunity to visit friends in Peru in 1985. She loved traveling, and she and Don enjoyed several years of traveling adventures before health issues slowed them down. She and Don loved to dance and belonged to several dance clubs, often demonstrating exhibition ballroom-style dancing for their friends. Wanda was a member of the Harmony Bridge Club for more than 50 years. She enjoyed playing card and board games until shortly before her death. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents Earnest and Lillian, sisters Hannah, Nisha, Ora Rae, brothers Seth and Merrill, husband Don, and grandson Troy Patrick. She is survived by daughter Barbara (Charles) Corwin, son Dan (LeeAnn) Stivers, grandchildren Rob (Mariel) Stivers, Mae (Wayne Sieg) Corwin, Jason Corwin and great-grandchildren Kylie and Madison Corwin, Sarah and Robert Lusk, and several nieces and nephews. Please join our family for a time of celebration and sharing memories for Wanda on April 22, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Family graveside services will be April 23, at 11 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park. At that time, Wanda and Don will be reunited in their final resting place. Wanda's family is very grateful to the loving staff of the care facility Blaine Manor, in Hailey, Idaho, for the wonderful care and love they shared with Wanda. ln lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Croy Canyon Ranch Foundation, PO Box 640, Hailey, Idaho 83333. All funds go to a future care facility. All services and arrangements are under the direction of the Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls, Idaho.
