Barbara was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts. She had two sister and a brother. In 1956 she met William (Art) Robins, she was 18 and he 19, they married within 8 months (many said it would never last due to their age), 54 years later they could say they proved them wrong. They were blessed with three children. Mark, Tamme, and Russell. Two daughters-in-law, Kami and Regina and son-in-law Rick. Eight grandchildren, Erin, Keegan, Ashlee, Haleigh, Jace, Riley, Mackenzie, and Sydnie. One great grandson, William. Barbara and Art lived the Air Force life for more the twenty years. Moving many times, from Bangor Maine, to Guam, on to Plattsburgh New York, Washington D.C., and Tacoma, Washington, finally settling in Mtn Home, Idaho. When finished with his Air Force career they both became self-employed, Barb by opening Just for Kids Daycare, and Barbs T.L.C. Daycare. She spent more than 20 years loving and caring for the children of Mtn. Home. Barb loved her many kids and they loved her. In 1998 when they retired, Barb and Art hit the road, traveling in their motorhome from coast to coast, visiting their many friends and family. Their favorite was to winter in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and summer at the Waters Edge R.V. Resort in Cascade, Idaho. When it came time to park the motorhome, they called Shenandoah Estates in Garden City, Idaho home. Barbara loved her time there, especially the time spent with the ladies of the craft club. A gathering of friends and family for Barbara will be held on May 1st at 2:00 p.m. at the Shenandoah Estates Clubhouse. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to St. Lukes Hospice, of Boise, Idaho; whose outstanding care helped her and the family immensely. A special thank you is sent to Dr. Julie Gunther, Sue Carlstrom, and Pam Harris, whose love and compassion make all the difference.

Helen Irene (Stewart) Narad

Helen Irene (Stewart) Narad 1922-2011 Helen Irene (Stewart) Narad died peacefully at the age of 89 April 8, 2011 at St. Alphonsus hospital in Boise. Prior to this, she has been a resident at Valley View Medical Rehabilitation facility for a few years. She had many friends with patients and staff. The family is grateful for the loving care that she received while there. Helen was born on January 21, 1922 at Checotah, Oklahoma to James C. and Lucy Ann Lay Stewart. Helen was the second youngest of a family of 9 children. She was preceded in death by 8 brothers, her husband of 67 years Thomas E. Narad, Sr. who passed away December 23, 2010. A viewing and memorial service will be held at Summers Funeral Homes, 3629 E. Ustick Rd., Meridian, on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. She will join her husband in rest at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery on Monday, April 18, 2011. Graveside services are not planned. Helen is survived by her son Thomas E. Narad, Jr.; daughter-in-law Mary Ann; two grandchildren Eric Narad and Tamara Narad; and great grandchildren Julian, Aubree, and Tahlia. She is also lovingly remembered by her son at heart, Leslie Desavedo who lives in Arkansas. It is hard to adequately sum up Helen's 89 years in a few sentences. Every relative, friend, or associate knew of her compassion, honesty, and sweetness of spirit. She always had kind words and a willingness to help others in need. Even in later years with her own health failing she was more involved with helping others rather than dwelling on her own needs. Helen always worked hard in a variety of jobs and also as a loving spouse, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was always a giving and forgiving person. She will forever have a place in the hearts of family and anyone who knew her. Helen will be tremendously missed, but we take comfort in knowing that she deserves a special reward in her afterlife as she rejoins her husband and other family members. She found her own comfort in devotion to God and had an abiding faith that guided her during life in this mortal world. We love you Mom.

Henry Brown 'Duge' Pharris

Friday, April 15, 2011 2:00 AM

April 19, 1918-April 12, 2011

Henry Pharris

Henry Brown "Duge" Pharris 1918 - 2011 Henry Brown "Duge" Pharris died on April 12, 2011, one week short of his 93rd birthday. He was born on April 19, 1918, on a farm five miles south of Jerome. He was the second of the six children of Guy K. Pharris and Margaret (Adams) Pharris. At his birth, Guy called him a "little Dugan" and the nickname Duge stuck for the rest of his life. Duge's early life was spent on the farm in Jerome's Canyonside district. When Duge was fourteen, his father died unexpectedly, leaving Margaret at the depths of the Great Depression with no income and six children to raise. With his brothers Duge farmed and did odd jobs, and on the death of his grandfather Adams, Duge took over his grandfather's beekeeping business. When he graduated from Jerome High School in 1936, he sold the bees and raised enough money for one semester of college at the University of Idaho. Later he attended business college in Salt Lake City, studying to be a bookkeeper and accountant. During the early part of World War II, Duge was a civilian contract employee of the Navy. On Pearl Harbor Day, he was working at Midway Island. During the battle of Midway in 1942, he was working at Pearl Harbor. Expecting to be drafted, Duge eventually enlisted in the Army, where he hoped to join the Air Corps. At first he was unsuccessful, but eventually he was transferred into the Air program. One of his training programs was at the University of North Dakota in the spring of 1944, where he met Grace Louise Schultz, who was in her senior year of college. Duge and Grace were married at Hondo Air Force Base in Texas on June 10, 1944, a short time before he was shipped to Europe for active duty. Duge was a bomber navigator in the war, stationed at Bari, Italy. On his first mission, his plane was shot down over Montenegro. Duge and his crewmates were smuggled through German lines by the Yugoslav partisans and flown back to Italy after 12 days missing in action. For the remainder of the war, he flew bombing missions to northern Italy, Austria, and other German-occupied areas. When the war ended in 1945, Duge and Grace moved back to Jerome, and he took a job as bookkeeper at Tingwalls department store. Through a series of circumstances, he eventually found himself managing the whole store, and taught himself the various aspects of the dry goods business. During these years, Duge and Grace raised their three children and participated actively in local affairs. In the 1970's, Duge and Grace purchased the store from the Tingwall estate and operated it as Pharrises department store. In 1985, they sold off the merchandise, leased out the store building, and retired. Unfortunately, their "golden years" together were brief, as Grace died of cancer in 1987. After a lonely time, Duge remarried in 1989, to Lula Frank Harrington, and moved into Lou's home in Twin Falls. Duge and Lou traveled extensively, played golf, and spent several winters at Queen Valley, Arizona, a retirement community that included a number of "Idaho snowbirds." As president of the community association, Duge was the unofficial "mayor" of Queen Valley for a year or two. Lou died in 2002, and Duge accepted an invitation to share the home of his sister, Betty Pharris, in Boise. Duge plunged into life in a new community with characteristic vigor, becoming active in church and community affairs. Up to the last few weeks of his life, he served as a greeter in church, volunteered to assist new immigrants with their English language skills, and walked the dog two miles every day. Duge was a member of the Jerome Presbyterian Church for fifty years, serving as parish clerk, deacon, and elder. In Boise, he was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. At various times he was a member of the Jerome Kiwanis Club, the Rotary Club, and the Chamber of Commerce. He served on the planning commission and the Jerome City Council, and served for many years on the board of St. Benedict's Hospital in Jerome. Duge was preceded in death by his parents, by his two wives, Grace and Lou, and by his brothers Harold, John, and Carl Pharris. He is survived by his three children: James Pharris (Rebecca) of Olympia, Washington; Margaret Barry (Ronald) of Lake Oswego, Oregon; and Kristen Erway (Bruce) of Alameda, California; by his sister BJ Pharris of Boise and his brother Earl Pharris (Hazel) of Cozad, Nebraska and his sister-in-law Virginia Pharris of Hazelton; by his grandchildren: Nicholas Pharris, Ingrid Pharris Goebel (Tim), Mark Pharris, Elizabeth Barry, Monica Barry, and Anna Erway; and by many loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends. There will be a graveside inurnment for Duge at the Jerome Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2011. A memorial service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 4848 N. Five Mile Rd. in Boise at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2011. Please visit Duge's memorial webpage online at www.CloverdaleFuneralHome.com., , Duge was a civilian contract employee of the Navy. Thomas Wesley Manning

Thomas Wesley Manning 1957 ~ 2011 Thomas Wesley Manning rushed into the world the evening of Nov. 3, 1957 in Alameda, California to greet his mom and dad, Janice and Samuel Manning and a sister, Ruthie. Three years later Tom was excited with the arrival of his younger brother William, (Billy). The family spent Tom's early years in Alameda and Pleasant Hill, California. In the first grade Tom and his family moved to Dallas, Texas. Five months later, Tom's family was in a car accident that took the life of his father and younger brother, Billy. Late summer 1964, Tom, his sister, and mother moved to Nampa, Idaho where he graduated from High School in 1975. Tom attended Boise State College for two years and received his associate degree in Surveying and Drafting. Tom worked for companies that were surveying for oil in many parts of the world. Tom saw life as a challenge and to experience as much of the world as he could. He was an outdoor enthusiast who worked and explored in Libya and Chad, Zambia, Cape Town, S.A., The Congo, New Guinea, and Haiti, Australia, The North Sea, England, Scotland, Australia, Alaska, Territories of Canada, Antarctica, and Newfoundland. He visited many other countries while working abroad. Tired of the living from a suitcase, Tom returned to college in Denver, CO. He and his friends made time to hike, bike, and climb. Winter found Tom skiiing and snow shoeing at every opportunity. During those busy years, Tom met and then married Clara Muino August 10, 1991. They loved camping and outdoor sports together. They were often accompanied by their beloved dogs. They both graduated December, 1993 from University of Colorado; Tom with a degree in electrical Engineering. Together they enjoyed the Southwest and Colorado. The Cancun area in Mexico was their favorite place to warm up in January. Tom was an avid mountain climber and did many of the tough fourteeners. Rock climbing tested his skills and courage as he and a friend scaled many rocky peaks including a climb to the top of Eldorado in Colorado, and Devil's Tower in Wyoming; he always in pursuit of excellence with respect and appreciation for the environment. Tom worked for Air Sciences of Lakewood, CO, where he designed, tested and installed air quality monitoring systems and he designed communication systems for remote data collection. In August, 2000, Tom went to work for Gaming Laboratories of Golden, Colorado where he designed testing procedures of gaming devices. He tested the software for compliance with house reporting systems. Tom fought many brave battles with his health before he made his home in Boise. Here he lived with his mother the past five years When he was able, he enjoyed hiking and biking the Boise hills; he challenged life to his fullest, always testing his stamina. He often was escorted by his two faithful dogs. Tom died peacefully Wednesday morning, April 13, 2011 at home with his mother and sister near by. Tom is survived by his mother, Jan Manning of Boise and his sister, Ruth (Robert) Gay of Alameda, California; two nephews, Tom and Joe Gay; one niece, Addie Gay; and an extended family. He also leaves his beloved dogs, Lucy and Demon. He will be greatly missed! In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an animal shelter of your choice.
