David Lyon

David R. Lyon 1946 - 2011 On May 4, 2011, after visiting St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, David R. Lyon was called to be with his Heavenly Father following a heart attack. David and his wife Kathy of 44 years were on a Mediterranean cruise, where they visited Barcelona, Monte Carlo, Florence and Rome. They were surrounded by radiant turquoise waters and were enjoying their time together at his passing. Dave was born on December 4, 1946 to Deloris and Horatio C. Lyon in Spokane, WA. They later moved to Gooding, ID, where he was raised with his three siblings, Cathy, Ken and Mary Jean. Dave loved his small town upbringing, where he helped his father deliver gas to local farmers, enjoyed fishing, hunting birds, golf and basketball. He graduated from Gooding High in 1965 and then attended Idaho State University in Pocatello, where he met his wife, Kathy Dudunake, and from this union they created three beautiful children, Nicholas, Gregory and Alissa Lyon. While attending Idaho State University, David began working for the Union Pacific Railroad, where he began his career as a janitor or "red cap" and worked his way up through various upper management positions. Dave retired in 2001 after 34 years of exceptional service to the Union Pacific Railroad. He then moved to Boise, ID to be closer to family and to enjoy time golfing with his brother, Ken. Dave was a man full of life with a contagious smile, who loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly. Dave is survived by his wife, Kathy; three children: Nick Lyon (Anita), Greg Lyon, and Alissa Lyon (Juan); five grandchildren: Brady, Parker, Adrien, Alex and Elena and sisters: Cathy Gropper and Mary Jean Jones. Dave loved his grandchildren and was always eager to teach them to fish. He enjoyed watching his elder grandsons, Brady play basketball and Parker play baseball, and was known to all the parents in the stands for his outgoing and fun nature. Dave's truest personal passion was golfing. He was an active member of the Caldwell Men's Golf Association and the Idaho Senior Golf Association where he played almost daily at Purple Sage Golf Course. Dave loved the outdoors and liked taking long drives through nature. Be it the seasons, a beautiful sunset, or a deer grazing in a field, Dave believed that nature's beauty could only be witnessed so many times in a lifetime, and therefore must be enjoyed. He savored the simple moments that life offered and tried to share this enjoyment with those around him. A loving father, grandfather, husband, sibling and loyal friend of many, David R. Lyon will be missed on Earth, but his presence and positive impact on all he loved will not be forgotten. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 16th at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 6300 N. Meridian Rd. Condolences may be left for the family online at www. AccentFuneral .com. Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian.

Robert Hooker Jr.

March 1, 1931-May 8, 2011 Robert (Bob) E. Hooker, Jr., 80, died on May 8, 2011, at the Canyon West Health and Rehab Center in Caldwell, Ida., of age related causes. Bob was born in Klamath Falls, Ore., on March 1, 1931, to Robert (Gene) and Winifred Hooker. Bob spent his entire childhood in Klamath Falls where he enjoyed the benefits of small community living and excellent educational opportunities. Bob graduated with honors from Klamath Union High School in 1949. His early interest in sports and attention to detail were evident during those formative years. Following his high school years, he attended the University of Oregon, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science in 1954. He was an active member of Sigma Kappa fraternity. Developing an interest in sports journalism, Bob attended graduate school at the University of Iowa in 1954 and 1955 where he was a member of the Daily Iowan campus sports staff. A 39-year career in sports journalism began with his accepting positions with newspapers in Ohio, Minnesota and Wisconsin in the 1950s through the mid- 1960s. He worked on newspapers in both Marshall, Minn., and Piqua, Ohio. In 1956 he joined the Wisconsin State Journal sports department in Madison, Wis., where he met his wife of 40 years, Shirley. In the spring of 1967, Bob started a 27-year career with the Caldwell News Tribune, now the Idaho Press-Tribune. The move to Caldwell was an opportunity to be closer to his home town of Klamath Falls, as well as to once again enjoy the benefits of a close community environment. "Off the Hook" byline soon became a well-known fixture on the sports page of the Tribune. As a noted sports statistician, he could quote from memory the scores of high school and college sports, as well as the accomplishments of sports figures from decades in the past. Bob's success as a sports writer was based on his ability to know and report the positives of those who coached the players and the players who played the games. The coaches and players he knew and mentored were among his most precious memories. He took a personal interest in his work, became a part of the sports programs he wrote about, and a true friend of the participants. In recognition of his dedication and excellence in sports journalism, Bob received distinguished service awards from the Idaho High School Activities Association and the Idaho Coaches Association in 1983. Bob is survived by his sister and brother- in- law, Mary and Tom Claudson, of Port Ludlow, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Winifred of Klamath Falls, Ore. At his request there will be no funeral services. However, the Caldwell Elk's Lodge is planning to hold a memorial service between 3 and 5 p.m., Friday, May 20. Memorials in Bob's behalf may be sent to Pet Haven, P.O. Box 481, Nampa, ID 83653. Arrangements are under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Robert Mickelson

Robert "Bob" Eugene Mickelson 1924 - 2011 Robert "Bob" Eugene Mickelson passed away peacefully in his sleep April 30, 2011 in Boise, ID, where he had lived for the last 13 months after moving from Sun Valley, where he had resided since 1975. He was born February 25, 1924 to Walter and Ethel Mickelson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he was known as "Bobby". A gifted athlete, he was on the U.S. B-team for the Olympics in high and low hurdles, played high school and semi-pro football and was a Golden Gloves boxer. After high school, Bob studied at the University of Minnesota and, as soon as he was eligible, enlisted in the U.S. Naval Air Corps. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in June of 1947, after achieving the title of regimental commander, the highest military honor accorded to a cadet. After his naval service, Bob hitchhiked around the United States and ultimately returned to the University of Minnesota where he earned his Bachelor's of Business Administration in 1948. He earned his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1950. While attending Harvard, he met Mary Louise Cleave, a Washington State native and student at Simmons College. They married in January of 1951 in Seattle, WA and honeymooned in Sun Valley. By 1956, they had two children, son Marc and daughter Heidi. In 1959, Bob felt that too much business travel was preventing him from being a part of his children's lives, so he took a leave of absence from work and the family travelled in a Volkswagen camper throughout Europe for 18 months. They raised their children in Lakewood, WA, making regular visits to Sun Valley whenever they could, and moving there permanently in 1975. Bob's career was deeply influenced by his love of the outdoors and sports. His first job after Harvard was in the men's clothing business with Seattle Woolen Company, and later Day's Tailored Clothing. There he founded and was President of a new subsidiary, Edelweiss Ski Wear, manufacturer of the first stretch ski pants in the U.S. and outfitter of the 1964 U.S. Olympic Ski Team. In 1967, he left the clothing business to manage full time the ski area he created, developed and co-founded, Alpental, outside of Seattle, WA. Later real estate ventures included three condominium projects at Alpental; the Edelweiss Condominiums at the base of Warm Springs in Sun Valley; co-development of the Pioneer Inn at Bogus Basin outside of Boise; and numerous consulting positions for various projects and developments throughout the Northwest. Career honors include induction into the Apparel Hall of Fame in 1957, and the Pacific Northwest Ski Hall of Fame in 2004; founder and original member of the Board of Directors of the Ski Industries of America. In 1981, he and Mary Lou divorced, though they remained friends throughout his life. Brought together by their love of travel and sports, he met and married Joan Donaldson Robb in 1983 and their travelling adventures began soon thereafter. Together they travelled the world in a series of RV caravan excursions, bare boat charter trips and extended cruises. They enjoyed skiing, tennis, and golf together and loved entertaining their many friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Betty Mickelson Tyrholm and his wife, Joan Robb Mickelson. He is survived by his son, Marc Mickelson, and granddaughter, Cassandra Dawn Mickelson; his daughter, Heidi Mickelson, son-in-law, Danny Beritich, and grandson, Zachary Daniel Mickelson; his four step-children, Jodie Robb, Tom Robb, Don Robb and John Robb; and seven step-grandchildren. Bob leaves behind not only the legacy he created through his real estate developments, but also the many lives he touched and inspired throughout his 87 years. His strong spirit, love of life, positive attitude, warm smile, twinkling blue eyes and gracious treatment of those around him will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of his life to be held Sunday, June 26, 2011 from 2 to 4 pm at The Grill at the Knob Hill Inn in Ketchum, ID. Stories and favorite memories are welcome! In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Elks Rehabilitation Hospital in Boise, ID or the Hospice of the Wood River Valley in Ketchum, ID., and, as soon as he was eligible, enlisted in the U.S. Naval Air Corps. Shauna Lynn Fields

Shauna Lynn Fields May 7, 2011 Shauna Lynn Fields, devoted mother, daughter, sister and grandmother passed away suddenly Saturday, May 7th. Shauna, always caring for her family, will be dearly missed by everyone whose life she touched. Shauna's childhood was a rich on love growing up with her parents Don and Joyce and her sisters, Mya and Marla. She spent many hours with her true love--her horse Lady--riding around the San Jacinto valley in Southern California. An accomplished rider, she barrel raced and showed horses and won many awards. Her adult years brought Marriage and children into her life. Micheal, Jessica and Tyler were her pride and joy and she loved them more than life itself. Shauna always worked and had good jobs but it was never about career for her. She worked to help provide for her family. Always about family. Her most cherished gift from God. Her life took a turn one day when a reckless driver took away her ability to work and her ability to remember. What was never taken from her was the core of who she was.
