Alleen Hawk

Jewell Alleen (Rich) Hawk 1911 ~ 2011 Alleen Hawk, 99, moved on to heaven on May 27,2011 in Boise, Idaho, her home since 1953. Alleen was born on October 12, 1911 in Loco, Oklahoma, one of two children of Rosabelle and George Rich. She grew up in Oklahoma during the Great Depression and made do with few toys and created her own entertainment, such as swinging on old oil pump sucker rods. Oklahoma had just become a state and she was part of the first generation pioneering statehood. She met and married Lucian Hawk on December 7, 1935. They made their home in County Line, Oklahoma where Dad worked for Magnolia Oil Company and later Burt Tank and Treator Company. They moved to Duncan, Oklahoma, Wichita, Kansas, Great Bend, Kansas and Ardmore, Oklahoma before discovering the scenic beauty of Idaho, moving to Boise in 1953. Mom's brother, Marvin Rich, had moved his family to Idaho a few years earlier and introduced us to Idaho. Dad worked for Intermountain Gas Company from its beginning in 1956 until his retirement in 1973. Mom was a member of Whitney United Methodist Church for many years and was a 51 year member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine. Mom was famous for her pies and fresh banana cakes to which the family attests she had no equal. Milk and homemade cookies were an after school staple as were fried chicken on Sunday dinner. She loved fishing for trout in Idaho's streams often at Mores or Grimes Creek by herself and enjoyed any outing in Idaho's mountains. She enjoyed her relationship with her many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. She was a sharp thinker who knew the gold, silver and oil prices and what the President and candidates were saying at all times. She had followed them all from Taft to Obama. Ten years ago in a heavy rainstorm she climbed the 50 stairs of Michie Stadium at West Point to see her grandson David graduate. When she got to the top of the stairs the rain stopped and the sun started to appear. Alleen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lucian; and brother, Marvin. She is survived by her daughter, Linda; son, David; and daughter-in-law, Bonnie all of Boise; and grandchildren, Pam Kennedy and Shaun of Helena, Montana; Valerie Lefler and husband, Erik of Tooele of Utah; and her two step great grandchildren, Forrest and Sierra; and grandson, David Lucian and wife Melissa of Clarksville, Tennessee; and her nephews, Richard Rich and Shirley of Blaine, Washington; Donald Rich and Megan of Oakland, California; and numerous Hawk nieces and nephews. Marvin, a well-known wrought iron expert and poet under the pen name of Soonerland Slim, wrote the following for his sister a few years back: A-For actions that are really worthwhile, L-For laughter that's enhanced with a smile. L-For longing for a beautiful life, E-For everlasting faithful wife. E-For earning blessings from above, N-For nature that taught her to love. Like a breath of fresh air while taking a walk, That's my sister-----Alleen Hawk!!! Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Cloverdale Funeral Home at 4:00 pm, with viewing prior to the service and graveside services to follow. Reverend Christina Thompson of Whitney United Methodist Church will officiate. The family would like to express their appreciation for the courtesy shown to Mother by Life Care of Treasure Valley, Hillcrest Assisted Living, and Boise Health and Rehabilitation. The family has asked that donations be made to the Whitney United Methodist Church building fund or the Idaho Humane Society. To share memories with the family please visit Alleen's memorial webpage online at www.CloverdaleFuneralHome.com.

Debra Hill

Debra Jean Hill 1956 - 2011 Former Idaho Falls resident Debra J "Southwick" Hill passed away May 25, 2011 at home with family and friends close by. Debi was the type of person that you fell in love with in the first moments of meeting her. She had a way of reaching people and changing their lives before they knew they had been inspired. Debi Hill was the Special Education Department Chair at Mountain View High School. During her career as a Special Education Teacher she found an unparalleled way to communicate with her students that will have an everlasting impact on their lives. Debi transformed the hearts of her family and friends in a way that cannot be rivaled and she will be missed by all who were privileged to know her. To her husband Wendell she was his best friend and the person who completed him. To her daughter Jessi she was always someone to look up to, to aspire to be like, and the person to show her the way. To her son Cody, she was his lifeline that made him the optimist he is. She made him feel that the insanity around him didn't matter when she was near. To her extended family she was a freethinking and loving spirit. In spite of everything she was enduring, she taught us to live and die with dignity. The legacy that Debi would like to leave with us is "love, laugh, and live well together." Debi is survived by her husband, son, daughter, father, 3 brothers, and 1 sister. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Idaho Humane Society. A Memorial Celebration will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 31st at Cloverdale Funeral Home. Dorothy Jackson

Dorothy May Jackson 1931 ~ 2011 Dorothy May Jackson, born May 16, 1931 in Portland, Oregon passed away on May 22, 2011 in Boise, Idaho at the age of 80 years. She was the daughter of Pearl and Walter Boyd of Astoria, Oregon. Dorothy was a long time resident of Astoria having spent her childhood and early adult years living there. Dorothy graduated from Astoria Senior High School in 1949 and went on to attend Oregon State University. In 1951 while working for the U.S. Navy at Tongue Point Naval Base, she met the love of her life, Richard Jackson. Two years after they met, they were married on July 11, 1953 in Warrenton, Oregon. She loved her life in Oregon, and she and Richard raised two children, Scott and Carol-Lynn in Astoria and later in Hillsboro, Oregon. They eventually found their way to Boise, Idaho and also lived in East Amherst, New York before retiring to Seven Lakes, North Carolina. In 2005 Dorothy and Richard moved back to Boise to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. After her own children were grown she often volunteered at grade schools to teach children to read. She also volunteered her time at her church thrift store and school libraries. She believed in serving her fellow man and was well known for her love of animals. The ASPCA was one of Dorothy's favorite charitable causes. Dorothy had a green thumb and everywhere that she lived throughout her life the garden always had an abundance of healthy shrubs and flowers. Dorothy will be remembered for her gentle caring nature and her quiet dignity. Later in life even as her health presented her with challenges, she seldom complained and often placed the needs of others before her own. Those who knew Dorothy well over the years often made the comment that she never said a bad word about anyone. Dorothy was a true and faithful believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, and took comfort in her faith even as her final days drew near. She lived a long positive life and passed away 6 days after her 80th birthday. Her passing leaves a void in the lives of those that knew and loved her, but solace is taken in the fact that she is now resting in peace with the Lord. Dorothy was loved very much by her family and friends and she is greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her mother Pearl Boyd and father Walter Boyd of Astoria, OR. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Richard C. Jackson of Boise, ID; son Scott Jackson and daughter-in-law Angie Jackson of Boise, ID; daughter Carol-Lynn Vidjan and son-in-law Francis Vidjan of Rochester, NY; grandchildren, Jason Jackson and wife Ana Gallegos-Jackson of San Diego, CA; Katie Jackson of Boise, ID; Michelle Goldstein and David Goldstein of Rochester NY; and grand-stepson, Jason Vidjan of Atlanta, GA. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that a donation be made to the American Lung Association in Dorothy's name. The family held a private memorial service on May 28th at the Holy Nativity Episcopal Church in Meridian, Idaho. To share memories with the family please visit Dorothy's memorial webpage online at www.CloverdaleFuneralHome.com.

Luis Rodriguez

Luis Lopez Rodriguez, born August 14, 1922, to Selso and Bentura in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico, passed from this life May 26, 2011, at his home in Caldwell, Idaho. A child of the Depression, he lived in the United States most of his life. As eldest son, he was, early in life, a very hard-working man, providing for his family. Out of the fields of manual labor and any odd job he could muster, he was always working to survive, working to create a better way of life for his family. Literally, from before the dawn until long past the setting sun of each day, he was out there finding what he could to earn a few more pennies. Hard lives create hard men, but Dad always found life's journey intriguing and interesting. 1941 changed his life. WWII created opportunity to step out of poverty. U.S. Armed Services offered U.S. citizenship, but an exchange of citizenship from Mexico to United States was required. His parents were strongly against this exchange, but Dad made this very difficult decision and was enlisted into the U.S. Army. His military service was highly valued and he proudly and bravely served. Honorably discharged after WWII, his patriotism never faltered. In 1947 he met and wed Margaret, his wife of 53 years until her passing in 2000. Wed in Wyoming, the couple moved to Nebraska where a family of seven was born and raised. Luis was employed by Civil Service and retired in 1986. He joined the National Guard and very proudly served as a Guardsman for 35 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He is survived by four siblings, Lorenza Rodriguez of Kansas City, Mo., Paula Herrera and Grace Baros of Hermiston, Ore., and Lupe Rodriguez of Pierre, S.D. He is also survived by five children, Pat Pryor of Fallon, Nev., Teresa Oldham of Middleton, Louis Rodriguez and Cindy Salazar of Las Vegas, Nev., and Mary Ellen Drymon of Caldwell, Idaho, and many grand and great-grandchildren. It is with abiding love, respect and sorrow that we say goodbye to our Father and send him home to be with our loving God and his awaiting family members. His gift to us was a belief in self and a pride and respect for hard work. We will miss him always. He will remain in our hearts forever. Viewing will be from 4-7 p.m. and the rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell, idaho. Internment will follow at Mt Calvary Cemetery, Nampa at a later date. Luis' online guestbook is available at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com.

Maria Loera

Maria Asuncion (Doña Concha) Loera passed away of natural causes May 25, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Meridian, Idaho. A formal viewing will be held at 4 p.m. with a Rosary starting at 7 p.m., Tuesday May 31, 2011, at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell, Idaho. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday June 1, 2011, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Caldwell, Idaho. She will be buried at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Caldwell, Idaho. Maria was born in Tayahua, Zacatecas, Mexico August 25, 1925, to Refugio Tellez and Maria de Refugia Murillo. A loving spouse, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother who always made it known that her love was never ending. She was a wonderful woman who loved cooking and taking care of her family. She always made sure that her family and friends had something to eat and never took no for an answer. Grandma Concha lived a long and happy life, there are so many memories it's almost impossible to list them all. The most shared were her headache "remedios" of putting beans and papas on her temples, known for her best carne con chile, always worried about her sons and whether they ate or not, fearless, stouthearted and strong, the wooden bowls she used to serve her beans and the wooden stool she used to reach the stove where she cooked them. Grandma was up by 5 a.m. every morning ready to do everything. Always letting the girls do her braids and pick her clothes. She was the greatest mother-in-law without measure. She is survived by her parents Reid Aldrich of Middleton, and Shari Marz Aldrich of Nampa, and older brother Taylor, also recovering from the accident. Becca was an incredible young woman, wise beyond her years, an "old soul". She was beautiful inside and out, but didn't know it. She was honest, tenderhearted, hilariously funny, generous and so much more. She was LOVED by so many family and friends. She truly enriched everyone's lives and this is a great loss for all who knew her. She loved the mountains, to camp & fish, listening to music and had a knack for taking amazing pictures. There are not enough words to describe what an extraordinary person she was. We will always love and miss our Becca Boo and her beautiful dimples, but we look forward to the day we will see her again in God's presence. We, as a family, would like to thank everyone very much for their prayers and support through this difficult time. She is also survived by Gr Grndprnts Troy & Leta Nation, Howard & Ardis Wilson; Grndprnts Bud & Judy Marz, Jeanne & Dannie Rose, Jerry Aldrich; Aunts Lori Marz, Jen Marz, Leta Parker, Bree Aldrich; Uncles Joe Falen, Rob Marz, Monty Ellis, Craig Aldrich and Cousins Levi, Nate and Matt Marz and many more extended family. Due to Taylor's recovery, we will be postponing the celebration of Rebecca's life until June. There will be an announcement when it will be held. In lieu of flowers, friends of the family have established a fund in remembrance of Rebecca Lynn Aldrich. Donations can be made or sent to any Zions Bank payable to the Taylor Aldrich Fund, 509 S. Kimball Ave. Caldwell, Id. 83605. Thank you.

Richard Clements Jr.

Richard Francis "Red" Clements, Jr. 1919 ~ 2011 Richard Francis Clements, Jr., 92, of Boise, passed away on May 24, 2011. His memory will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Summers Funeral Home, 1205 W. Bannock Street, Boise. Red was born March 4, 1919, in Nampa, Idaho to Richard F. and Hazel Tippin Clements. He moved back and forth between Idaho and California several times during his childhood. He graduated from Nampa High School, class of 1935 at 16 years old. He worked at farming with his family until 1940 when he took the civil service exam and went to work for the Bureau of Public Roads as a surveyor. He joined the Army in 1942 and was placed with 819 Aviation Engineers in the Army Corps of Engineers. He spent time in Scotland, England and France, and was in Normandy on D-Day. His perspective on his Army service was that he was fortunate to get through the war without being killed or wounded, or having a family member who was. While being away from his family was difficult, he got a free 3 ? year trip to Europe, the opportunity to witness things he otherwise would not have seen, and the opportunity to get a free college education. Red attended Boise Junior College (BSU) for two years and went on to graduate from the University of Idaho with a degree in civil engineering. Upon graduation he went back to work for the Bureau of Public Roads; now the Federal Highway Administration where he worked until his retirement in May, 1979. Red was married to Theresa Reagan in Coeur d'Alene in April 1958. They lived in Boise where they raised three children and some Black Angus cattle. Red was a hard worker who always put his family and his animals first. Red's second marriage to Alicia brought yet another chapter to his life. He will always be remembered for his witty sense of humor, the love he had for his home and of course his love of cookies. We honor him for his past services to America and to the State of Idaho as well as the construction of the many roads we travel on still to this day. Red did not drink, so we lift up homemade cookies to him in heaven. From Alicia "The day we took our vows I promised to be with you until death do us part....Rest in peace my beloved Red." Red was preceded in death by his parents, all five of his brothers and sisters, and his wife of 41 years, Theresa. He is survived by his daughter Mary (Matt) Wiegand of Bellevue, WA; son Steve (Lesa) Clements of Warsaw, IN; daughter Carol (Scott) Richardson of Bellevue, WA; and grandchildren Allie, Daniel, Lucy, Rachael, Sarah and Claire. He is also survived by his wife of 6 ? years, Alicia; her children Mike, Alex, Franco, Fred and Tina; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to St. Alphonsus Hospital Auxiliary., in 1942 and was placed with 819 Aviation Engineers in the Army Corps of Engineers.
