Ardean H. Duffell

Ardean H. Duffell Aug. 17, 1935 - May 3, 2011 Ardean H. Duffel, 75 of Twin Falls, passed away May 3, 2011 after a brief illness and fulfilled her lifelong goal of meeting her Savior. Ardean was born August 17th, 1935 in Burley, Idaho to Frank and LaRue Howells. She grew up mainly in the Twin Falls area, but also lived in Burley and Oakley. Her family went through many tough years and she learned at a young age to be independent and self sufficient. At times, she was the primary caregiver for her younger brother and sister, David and Mary Jo, and did whatever had to be done to support their family. During her high school years, she was fortunate to live in the care and supervision of the Kestler family and started attending the First Christian Church. It was there that she found her lifelong love of following Christ and being a part of His church. In 1953, Ardean graduated from Twin Falls High and attended school at Twin Falls Business College, where she honed her secretarial and bookkeeping skills. She eventually wound up working for Layne & Bowler in Pocatello - where she met James Duffel. They married a short time later and over the next few years their children Kristina and Patrick were born. The Duffel family moved to Twin Falls in 1962, where Ardean remained for the rest of her life. She was a stay at home mom until her children were in Jr. and Sr. High. She returned to work on a part-time basis at Layne Pumps to help out at the request of her husband. Not long after, she was employed on a full time basis as the office secretary and bookkeeper and remained until her retirement in 2006. Dinner times were often lively when customers and jobs were the discussion topics between sales management and accounting! After her retirement from Layne, Ardean devoted her time to working for Community Christian Church and in recent years helping out at Jubilee House as well. Ardean was a founding member of both organizations and many people in the community have been impacted over the years by her tireless faith, commitment, and hard work. As a wife, she was a devoted woman who endured but encouraged her husband's love of golf. Ardean was the procurer - and Jim's stain and finish partner in their antique furniture restoration projects. She was an avid seamstress, knitter, quilter, and anything that kept her hands busy. As a mother, she provided all of the lessons for her children that she missed out on as a child. There were times when she had both her kids in dance, piano, organ, or guitar lessons. She made sure that they were active in swimming, baseball, softball, activities at the YMCA, Boy Scouts, church camps - and things too numerous to mention. As a grandmother, she made sure that she was an influential, involved, and memorable part of her grandkid's lives. She was always the rock for her family. As a Christian, she was fearless and fully committed. Ardean fulfilled one of her dreams when she was able to go on a short term mission to Zimbabwe a few years ago with her friends Bob & Vicki Adams. One of the many gifts she left are the seeds of faith that were carefully tended - and weeded when necessary. Nobody under her watch left this world without knowing who Jesus is - and that He saved us all. This is what she wanted as the legacy that she left to her family, friends, and community. Ardean is survived by her sister Mary Jo (Dave)Domka, sisters-in-law Margaret Duffel and Mona Howells, her daughter Kristina Bowcut and grandchildren Jesse & Taylor Maher and Danielle & Brianna Bowcut, her son Patrick Duffel and grandchildren Nick (Beth) and Khira Duffel, Lisa (Jason) Guinn, Brent Jaramillo, six great grandchildren, and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim Duffel, sister Jackie Howells, and brother David Howells. In honoring her wishes, Ardean was cremated under the direction of Reynolds Funeral Chapel in Twin Falls. A worship & celebration service will be held May 21st at Twin Falls Reformed Church at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Jubilee House, Boise Bible College, or the charity of your choice. Special thanks to Ardean's dear friends Bob & Vicki Adams, and to the wonderful women of Hospice Visions.

Bernice Mary "Bernie" Simmons

On May 10, 2011, our mother gracefully took the most difficult step in any mother's life, and journeyed from this world into another, leaving us to fend for ourselves. (Obviously, her sense of humor leaves us equipped to handle life's ups and downs.) We love and respect our mother; she is very dear to us and is in our hearts forever. Mom was from Westover, Penn., born to Emory and Leah Westover on Dec. 26, 1919. It didn't bother her to be born the day after Christmas; we always tried to make sure she enjoyed her own special day. She met our father, Uriel, while living in New Jersey. He was walking down a hallway and when he saw her for the first time he was struck by her beauty and charm. Marriage soon followed on April 6, 1940, a union that stood the test of time. Our father passed away in 1996. They raised seven precocious children - the trinity of terror and fun, Dale, Geoff and Jay, followed by loving Sandee, gentle Mark, loyal Jon, and cynical Sue. There were numerous pets, most recently our "little brother," Tommy the cat, who kept a constant vigil over our mother. We remember family vacations at Payette Lake and time spent at the family farm in Burley. Many gatherings centered around meals our mother lovingly prepared, notably her homemade bread, roast beef and silky smooth mashed potatoes with rich brown gravy, finished off with her homemade pies. The ripple of our parents' lives continues on through the families of Dale (Dolores), Geoff, Jay (Linda), Sandee (Ron), Mark (Teresa), Jon (Carol), Sue (Kenny), and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and surely more to come. Sadly our brother Mark passed in 2007. Thank you Dr. Mark Clinger and nurse Cinnamon, the staff at BrightStar, Idaho Home Health and Hospice, and the gentle hearts of the staff and residents of Spring Creek Overland. Our mother never failed to mention everyone's kindness. A smile relieves a heart that grieves. A viewing for Bernice will be held from 10 till 11 a.m. with Funeral Services beginning at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 16, at Cloverdale Funeral Home, 1200 N. Cloverdale Rd. Boise, ID. Interment to follow at Kohlerlawn Cemetery 76 6th St. N. Nampa. To share memories with the family, please visit Bernice's memorial webpage online at www.cloverdalefuneralhome.com.

Katheryn Mae Ginther

Katheryn Mae Ginther Dec. 29, 1944 - May 11, 2011 "Quit hanging on to the reins . . . Let go. Surrender. Go for the ride of your life. Do it every day." On Wednesday May 11, 2011 surrounded by family and friends Kathy went to be with her Lord and Savior. Mom lived to experience the adventure and joy in each day! Whether with her family, nursing, an adventure on the trail, or in the arena, she did not miss an opportunity to celebrate life! Kathy was born in Twin Falls, ID on December 29, 1944. Helen May Kaufel Ginther and Ray Harold Ginther anticipated a New Year's baby, but as in all of her life she was not predictable. She reveled in growing up on the farm and helping outdoors. Her Mother always shooed her outside to help her Dad with the cattle, farm and small stock. As a result her passion for the great outdoors bloomed and her knowledge of the traditional female role; oblivious. She raised lambs, cocker spaniel puppies, and piglets to earn college money from an early age. During high school and college she enjoyed riding drill team with the Filer Wranglerettes. In 1965 she graduated from St. Alphonsus School of Nursing. Her nurturing hands provided care in every major medical center in Boise serving patients in the ER, ICU, open heart and orthopedic surgery. In 2005, after 40 years of nursing, Kathy retired from Saint Alphonsus Orthopedic institute. In retirement she enjoyed time with her grandchildren, Hailey, Simon, and Helen. Every day was a good day for a trail ride, and in 2006 Kathy joined the Ada County Sheriff's Mounted Possettes. The team embraced Kathy's giving spirit and zealousness for time in the saddle. She was early to every practice and performance. In the rodeo arena she radiated her love of equestrian flight. Since June of 2010, Kathy has bravely worked to defy a terminal cancer diagnosis. In the last months 10 months the outpouring of love from family and friends had been so humbling. We thank you for reflecting her love for you back to us in our time of need. Doctor William Kreisle and the nursing staff at St. Luke's MISTI treated and nurtured all of us through this tough time. In the last week of her life the nurses and aides at the Good Samaritan Society cared for Kathy and family with love and compassion. Kathy is survived by her daughter Maria Kilgo (John), son Ray Moore (Gabrielle), grandchildren Hailey and Simon Moore and Helen Kilgo in addition to aunts, cousins and friends. Kathy's love of the Lord is planted in her children and grand children. A fourth generation Lutheran Camp Perkins Church Camp family, Kathy requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to further sharing God's love in this glorious setting. Mail to: Camp Perkins, HC 64 Box 9384, Ketchum, Idaho 83340 or online at campperkins.org and click on "In Loving Memory - Kathy M. Ginther." She was born Mar 17, 1916 in Monango, ND as the second of 7 children born to Nellie and William Dawson. The couple relocated to Ogden, UT and later to various locations in Idaho before retiring in Payette, ID. Leona was a loving stepmother to her 4 stepchildren and mothered four children of her own. Leona often supplemented the family budget working as a retail clerk or waitress, but her main contributions were the hours of labor worked side-by-side with Cole renovating properties, operating retail outlets or bookkeeping for their family businesses. She volunteered in the elementary schools, served as a 4-H leader, sewed for family, friends and school functions and happily tromped about the countryside attending activities with her children and grandchildren. Leona delighted in her 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and cherished her many step-grandchildren as well. All were welcome at her home which even today has a toy box filled to the brim. Cooking, gardening, reading and needle crafts were Leona's favorite pastimes. In retirement, Leona loved RVing with Cole and was quick to pack their RV for trips to the mountains or to snow bird in Arizona and Nevada. Louise McMaster

Louise McMaster 1924 ~ 2011 Louise McMaster, 87, slipped silently away in her sleep in the early hours of May 9, 2011, after gracing her family with one final Mother's Day. She was born March 8, 1924, in Salt Lake City to Leonard Aaron and Ella Mae Smethurst. She was raised in a large and loving family with her sister and six brothers in Salt Lake City until her graduation from high school in 1942. Like many of her generation, she felt compelled to do her part in the war effort and became employed at a nearby munitions factory. She then decided to enlist in the Women's Army Corps and was soon on her way to "boot camp" in Iowa. Upon completion of her training she was assigned to duty in Georgia as a dental hygienist. As fate would have it, she met a young pilot and love of her life, William "Bill" McMaster, who was stationed nearby at a base in Alabama. After a "long" courtship of three dates in two weeks, the couple traveled to Bill's home in Chardon, Ohio, where they were married on Christmas Eve, 1945; a union that lasted for sixty-five years. The war ended, and Louise and Bill returned to Chardon where he worked for the Post Office. They decided to return to military life and Louise supported Bill's career as an Air Force pilot, raising their four children in Ohio, Texas, Kansas, Idaho and Oklahoma. She kept up the home front serving as den mother and dance troupe seamstress, while Bill deployed anywhere from thirty days to a year as he served during WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam. Louise's one main regret was that she was never able to travel overseas with him, but Bill's posts were never in family-friendly locales. After Bill's retirement, drawn by the mountains they loved, they settled in the Boise/Meridian area and built their dream get away on Cascade Lake where they were able to pursue their hobbies in earnest. While Bill fished or golfed, Louise continued her love of art. Louise was a talented artist whose interests spanned painting, ceramics, needlework, sewing and an unending supply of lawn art populating the grounds of their homes. Louise loved gardening, especially the beauty of peonies, yellow roses, hydrangeas and the taste of that first fresh tomato. She would pass her day happily feeding the squirrels and chipmunks or watching hummingbirds hovering at her numerous feeders. As the winters grew longer in Donnelly, they decided to become "snowbirds" to Arizona for several years, where her art projects took on a Southwestern flair. Louise will always be remembered as a woman who was quick to share a laugh and make friendships which spanned a lifetime; from feeling loved and accepted by her in-laws who truly became family, to the numerous friends who called her "Lou" "Weeze" or "Smitty". She relished those friendships and would like nothing better than to sit around the kitchen table one more time telling tales, laughing at one more joke, and waiting for one more fantastic meal to serve to friends and family. Louise is survived by sons, Larry (Sandie) of Goodyear, AZ; and Marc (Ann) of Boise; daughter, Heidi Barker (Rich Williams) or Meridian; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Michael, and Kelly; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Louise was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William "Bill"; son, Cpl. Michael (USMC); granddaughter, Michelle Barker; sister, Mary Jensen; and brothers, Allen, Bryon, Leonard, Floyd, Elmer "Tug", and twin brother, Lawrence. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Cloverdale Funeral Home, 1200 N. Cloverdale Rd, Boise. The family appreciates dear friends Max, Elaine, Bev, and Jess for their constant friendship and support. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff and family of Good Samaritan for their kind and compassionate care of Louise during her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Idaho Humane Society, 4775 Dorman St, Boise, ID, 83705. Michael Grimes

Michael David Grimes June 19, 1976 to April 24, 2011 Michael David Grimes, 34, went to the loving arms of his Savior, April 24th 2011 at his home in Wasilla, Alaska. He was born June 19th, 1976 in Jerome Idaho to the parents of Shawna Scott and David Grimes. A curious, strong willed individual, he spent his early years in Idaho and Oregon, "Not always following paths but leaving many trails." His big hearted, caring, outgoing charm, forged bonds of friendship lasting a lifetime. In 1998 he sat out on a journey to Alaska. Here he found love, life and adventure. Meeting his great love Shijoy Kilangak, establishing himself as an electrician, and exploring the wilderness of the "Great Land". Through ten years of their relationship he was immersed into the social and spiritual aspects of her native Yu'pik culture. He enjoyed the many different rich traditions of family and community. Michael shared his most precious possession with everyone he met, his love for his mother, sister Heather, nephew Justin and niece Mariah. As the years passed, with phone calls, shared memories and visits, Michael and Shijoy's families became one. Sadly without warning, Nov. 19th, 2008 Shijoy passed away at 27 years old. Michael's job allowed him to travel mostly via airplane to remote industrial complexes, backcountry communities, to a vast untamed wilderness that few ever witness. He took numerous journeys to see Alaska's great sights. He enjoyed the wilderness areas of Anchorage, Juneau, and Delta Junction, camping, hiking, dirt biking, snow machining and fishing with many friends. He never left home without a camera, leaving us all a vast treasury of pictures and videos of his travels, adventures, family and friends that he is still sharing with us now. In his last year, God was gracious to grant Michael another chance at love. He met Deborah Caudillo in Delta Junction, Alaska. On Mar. 12th, 2011, they had a ceremony to "Bless their relationship in the eyes of God". Together they made their home in Wasilla, Alaska, with their beloved pets, "Bear and Carly". In a note found among his possessions, he wrote of his desire to understand ourselves and life, and the spiritual knowledge of the life to follow. Ultimately he found order and harmony with all on this earth and with his faith in the Lord, resurrection in Heaven. Michael is survived by his Loving Partner Debbie Caudullo of Wasilla, AK; Mother Shawna Scott, Caldwell, ID; Father David Grimes and Step-mom Terri, Jerome, ID; Sister Heather and Brother-in-law Jeff Beard: Nephew Justin and Niece Mariah, Caldwell, ID and numerous Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins from ID, WA, CO, AZ, UT. A visitation was held April 29, 2011 in Anchorage followed by cremation. A "Celebration of Life" will be held in Idaho to be posted on Legacy.com.

Robert R. Auth

, where he served aboard destroyers during WW II. He was awarded three medals, a combat action award, and a cold war service award. After an honorable discharge, he resumed his education at Illinois Wesleyan University, where he studied painting, art history, etching, engraving, and education. In 1950, Bob married Norma J. Hill of Bloomington, Illinois. In 1952, Bob was elected into the Delta Phi Delta National Art Fraternity. He received the Roland Scholarship Best of Show for etching and engraving in 1952. In 1953 he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Illinois Wesleyan University. In 1955, Bob and his cousin visited Idaho on a hunting trip. Impressed by their experiences in the Salmon River country, they returned again, this time bringing a childhood friend. All three would eventually move to Boise in 1959. Tragically, Bob's cousin and friend met with early deaths. In 1960, Bob and his family moved to Burley, Idaho where Bob taught art. A year later, he returned to Boise where he became a teacher at East Junior High School. He remained there from 1961 to 1967. During this time, Bob resumed his education at Washington State University, earning a Master of Fine Arts Degree in 1963. In 1967, Bob transferred to Boise High School where he was a teacher of Arts and Humanities until 1981. Following a divorce in 1976, Bob was granted a sabbatical leave to pursue a Doctorate at the University of Idaho. In 1977, Bob met Alice Trotchie of Butte, Montana. They married in 1979. Alice was a member of the Cree Chippewa Little Shell Band of the Turtle Mountain Agency, and inspired many of Bob's Native American projects. As part of his graduate studies, Bob studied print and paper making at the Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1981, Bob became the Art Supervisor for the Boise School District until he retired in 1987. In addition to his teaching assignments for Boise Schools, Bob also taught at Albertson's College of Idaho, Boise State University, and the Boise Gallery of Art. Bob served on numerous Boards of Directors and was involved in many facets of community service. He served on the Executive Board of Directors for the Boise Education Association from 1969 to 1971. Other Board positions included the Boise Gallery of Art, from 1968 to 1974, the Idaho Alliance for the Arts in Education, from 1982 to 1986, and the Boise City Arts Commission from 1984 to 1988. He also served as Chairman of Art Curriculum Development for the Boise School District, Community Advisor to the Junior League, and Chair of the Committee to Develop Idaho State Humanities Curriculum Guide for Secondary Schools in 1985. During his lifetime, Bob received many honors and awards, including: numerous commendations from the Mayor's and Governor's offices for working with handicapped programs; First Idaho Invitational Traveling Exhibit; Rick's College Purchase Award; Artist of the Year for Outstanding Contribution to Art in the Community; National Arts Education Association Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession of Education; Governor of Idaho Award for Excellence in the Arts; and The Idaho Statesman Distinguished Citizen. Bob also received the Phi Delta Kappa's Annual Friend of Education Award, the Idaho Historical Society Honorary Curator of Military History, and the Ee-Da-How-Long Rifles, Inc. Outstanding Service Award. In 1983, Bob's work was selected for the Smithsonian Institute's exhibit, Sawtooths and Other Ranges of the Imagination, showcasing Idaho artists. His work was also included in the Smithsonian Institute's Postal Museum Exhibit's permanent collection. Bob's work is included in various collections: Illinois Wesleyan University, Washington State University, Idaho State University, and the Salt Lake Art Center are among them. Other collections include those of H. J. Heinz III, Boise Cascade Corporation, College of Southern Idaho, BYU Idaho, Boise Gallery of Art, Boise City Duane Beeson Municipal Airport, Boise City Railroad Depot, Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation, and Department of the Interior Big Hole National Battlefield. Upon retirement, Bob decided to revisit the Salmon River Country he had enjoyed so much. Purchasing land in Yellow Pine, Idaho, Bob and the son of a childhood friend, built his first log home, in town. He later built another on the Salmon River. During that time, Bob spent many happy moments, watching the elk, fox, bear, and birds that visited his yard. He also continued to produce his art and become a strong force in the Yellow Pine Community. Along with other dedicated citizens, Bob created and helped erect a monument dedicated to veterans from the Yellow Pine Basin. He also designed T shirts for the Annual Yellow Pine Harmonica Fest, which helped raise funds for the town. Bob's time in Yellow Pine provided opportunities for reflection and research, and he began work on his biography, Francie's Camera, which is due for publication in the summer. Bob is survived by his wife, Alice, and three daughters, Chris Niebrand (Gary), Connie Auth, and Cindy Schreiner (John), all of Boise. He also leaves a brother, Phil Auth of Twin Falls, a sister, Eileen Farrer of Bakersfield, California, and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Bob had many great joys in his life. He loved his family, his many friends, his log home in Yellow Pine, on the Salmon River, his years as a teacher of children, and creating art. He took great pride in his military service, and loved his country. He always said, "I love people." Although ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) left him unable to paint or draw, he remained enthusiastic about his biography and his visits with friends and family. The family would like to thank and acknowledge the staff of the Life Care Center of Boise for their professionalism and support. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations be made to one's favorite charity, in Bob's name.
